PRIMEQUEST 540 achieves outstanding TPC-C Benchmark rating

Posted under Server Products

The PRIMEQUEST server product line was recently upgraded to dual-core Itanium 2 9000 series “Montecito” processors. Benchmark publications for SPEC CPU2000 and SAP SD 2-Tier have so far shown impressive performance improvements.

The PRIMEQUEST system now excels in the most demanding TPC-C benchmark. The PRIMEQUEST 540 with Oracle 10g database and Red Hat Enterprise Linux signify an important list of achievements:

  • Intel, Itanium and Linux world records

  • Best-in-class among Itanium vendors in performance per core

  • The 16-socket 32-core PRIMEQUEST 540 outperforms the 64-core HP Integrity Superdome based on single-core Itanium 9M

  • 65% better than Unisys ES7000/One with 16 dual-core Xeon x7000 processors at 749,839 tpmC

  • Linux is shown to be Enterprise Ready again with this complex 3-Tier data center benchmark

  • IBM advantage is no longer in the mythical “factor of 2 and higher” as claimed for Oracle environment

Fujitsu High-End Itanium-Based Servers Offer Mission-Critical Hosting for Linux, Windows Applications

Posted under Server Products

A recently-released white paper discusses the PRIMEQUEST Series 500 mission-critical enterprise servers based on the Dual-Core Intel Itanium 2 processor. The servers are available in three models: the 520 (8 CPUs/16 cores), the 540 (16 CPUs/32 cores), and the 580 (32 CPUs/64 cores). All PRIMEQUEST servers run the current versions of Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 4 [RHEL4] and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Version 9 [SLES9]) and Windows (Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition for Itanium and Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition for Itanium). They will also run the next available Linux versions (RHEL5 and SLES10) and Microsoft’s Vista once those operating systems are released. In addition, the Series 500 servers will be able to accommodate the Itanium Montvale microprocessor upon its availability. Described by Fujitsu as its mission-critical line of Intel Architecture servers, these high-end platforms target customers seeking a highly reliable enterprise-class server that benefits from the economies of industry-standard hardware and software.
What differentiates Fujitsu’s PRIMEQUEST servers from other Intel IPF-based platforms is the careful attention paid to mission-critical design. Fujitsu has leveraged its proven mainframe and PRIMEPOWER (for Solaris and SPARC) design experience to create an Itanium-based family that satisfies customer desires for running mission-critical workloads on industry-standard servers.
It is well accepted in the industry that firms with a mainframe heritage such as Fujitsu, IBM, and Unisys can leverage this experience to other machine types for great benefit. Fujitsu is outstanding in this regard and has incorporated a number of mainframe-like capabilities for high availability in its PRIMEQUEST server offerings. These capabilities include the industry-unique System Mirror architecture, redundant system management, multiple hot-plug facilities, clustering, and a variety of other features and functions.

New PRIMERGY servers powered by dual-core Intel® processors deliver outstanding performance

Posted under Server Products

Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation has announced the introduction of new PRIMERGY 4-socket S3 generation server models: the RX600 S3 rack-optimized server and the TX600 S3 tower. Based on the new Dual-Core 64-bit Intel® Xeon® MP 7100 Series processors (codename Tulsa) announced in August, the models set a new world records for the SPECjbb 2005 industry standard benchmark. This new performance world record adds to the accolades already held by other servers in the PRIMERGY range – with the PRIMERGY BX620 S3 blade server already holding the top two Microsoft Exchange MMB3 benchmark scores.

The new servers deliver up to double the performance of previous models, and are based on the new Intel® Truland MP (multiprocessor) platform featuring Dual-Core Xeon MP 7100 Series 64-bit processors. Four new processor models are offered, with clock speeds from 2.6GHz through 3.4GHz, and three cache sizes. There are also new energy-efficient 95-watt versions of the MP7110 and MP7120 processors, which deliver improved processing performance per watt of electricity, an increasingly important benchmark for enterprise data centers. The new models easily meet the demands of enterprise customers who need powerful platforms for server consolidation and virtualization projects. With each unit housing up to four Dual-Core processors, the new RX600 S3 and TX600 S3 models are optimized for compute-intensive back-end data center services such as databases and ecommerce applications, where space and performance are both at a premium. And thanks to up to 16MB of third-level (L3) cache available on some models, and VT capabilities built into these new processors, the new PRIMERGY models deliver significant gains in transaction processing, especially when dealing with multithreaded or heavy multitasking workloads.  Extensive high availability features combined with the additional security of Intel’s built-in Cache Safe Technology make the PRIMERGY RX600 S3 and TX600 S3 platforms you can rely on.

The new models are available now.  For more information about the new PRIMERGY RX600 servers, click here

New PRIMEQUEST 500 Series servers offer doubled performance

Posted under Server Products

Fujitsu recently unveiled the PRIMEQUEST™ 500 servers which offer doubled performance and Advanced Virtualization in mission-critical environments. The PRIMEQUEST 500 series servers employ Dual-core Intel® Itanium® 2 processors, improving performance over previous models by as much as 2.5 times.  PRIMEQUEST 500 series servers deliver extended system scalability and the most advanced virtualization capabilities available today for Linux and Windows environments.

PRIMEQUEST 500 servers are ideal for mission-critical applications that demand high availability, robust performance, enhanced flexibility, and optimum resource usage. They integrate the dual-core Intel® Itanium® 2 processors with a number of architectural design features from Fujitsu to deliver a unique combination of power and flexibility. PRIMEQUEST 500 series servers offer up to 64 processor cores accessing 2TB of uniform main memory in a maximum of 16 partitions. The combination of the advanced eXtended PARtitioning (XPAR) capabilities of PRIMEQUEST servers and the Itanium® 2 Intel® Virtualization Technology creates the most advanced virtualization capabilities on the market.  In addition to partitioning system resources such as CPU and memory, I/O Units can also be individually partitioned to optimize resource allocations on a per-partition basis. Partitions can be defined with System Mirror mode, offering industry-leading fault immunity in the memory and cross-bar implementation.
