Fujitsu Recycle Program offers free return/recycling of old PCs

Posted under Corporate News, Mobile Products

As PCs become more and more ubiquitous, many users find it necessary to dispose of their old computers. Because computers can contain hazardous material, they should be recycled through a reputable recycler for disposal of hazardous materials and recovery of reusable products. Fujitsu now offers a free Recycle Program through which you can return any notebook or tablet computer that is manufactured or sold by Fujitsu Computer Systems Corp. This program provides a zero cost and environmentally responsible solution for the return, recycle or full raw material recovery of these products.

This is just one more way we demonstrate our commitment to our customers and the environment. For more information about the Fujitsu Recycle Program, please go to this link.

Fujitsu gets “greener” with its expanded global recycling plan

Posted under Corporate News

In March, the Fujitsu Group announced the expansion of its end-of-life IT products-recycling service. In addition to the voluntary recycling service already underway in Australia, Canada, and the US, the service is now offered at one additional location each in Canada and the US. The Fujitsu Group will also expand the service gradually in Southeast Asian countries beginning in this month.
These additions in North America and the APAC region build on existing services in Japan and Europe, enabling IT products-recycling at a total of nine locations in six countries. In this way, Fujitsu is working with its environmentally-minded customers to deal appropriately with IT products that have reached the end of their useful life and thereby contribute to environmental sustainability.

Fujitsu continues commitment to the environment by selecting UTC Power fuel cell

Posted under Corporate News

On March 7, Fujitsu America, Inc. announced its selection of UTC Power, a United Technologies company, to provide a PureCell™ Model 200 fuel cell to power and heat a portion of its Silicon Valley Campus in Sunnyvale, California. UTC Power will also service the unit for 15 years. This makes Fujitsu the Silicon Valley’s first long-term user of this environmentally-friendly technology. According to Marty W. Engh, Sr., Facilities Services Director of the Fujitsu Silicon Valley Campus, “Because fuel cells are among the cleanest power-generating technologies available today, this installation is only the beginning of our relationship with UTC Power. Fuel cells operate without combustion. Hydrogen fuel and oxygen from the air are combined in the fuel cell to produce electricity, heat and water. We are pleased to bring this green alternative energy solution to Silicon Valley and make our contribution to the Valley’s critical clean air initiative.”  Fujitsu expects this fuel cell unit to pay for itself in about three years because of the energy savings it will generate. It offers an extremely attractive, sustainable, reliable and efficient on-site energy solution that the company requires.  To read the complete press release about Fujitsu and its latest demonstration of environmental commitment, click here

Initiative launched to provide free electronic prescribing to all physicians in America

Posted under Corporate News

On January 16, a coalition of the nation’s most prominent technology companies and leading healthcare organizations (including Aetna, Allscripts, Cisco, Dell, Fujitsu, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Sprint Nextel, SureScripts, WellPoint, and Wolters Kluwer Health) announced a national initiative to provide free electronic prescribing for every physician in America. The National ePrescribing Patient Safety Initiative (NEPSI) is the first nationwide effort to improve patient safety by offering a solution to the medication errors that harm millions of people each year. Preventable medication errors injure at least 1.5 million Americans and claim more than 7,000 lives each year, according to a July 2006 study by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences. In an effort to reduce these errors, the IOM has called on all of the nation’s physicians to adopt electronic prescribing by 2010.

“While medication errors and adverse drug events can be common and serious, electronic prescribing is clearly a tool that can dramatically reduce errors and improve patient safety,” said Nancy W. Dickey, currently President of the Health Science Center and Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs at the Texas A&M University System and formerly President of the American Medical Association. “Yet despite the many benefits of electronic prescribing, physician adoption is still modest. The situation calls for a solution that will overcome the barriers many physicians face in adopting this life-saving technology.”  To read the entire press release about this important initiative, go to the Allscripts news page here
