Fujitsu Sustainability Report: dedicated to environment
Every year, Fujitsu issues its Sustainability Report. The purpose of the report is to describe “the thinking, efforts, and accomplishments regarding the social and environmental aspects of Fujitsu Group operations based on The FUJITSU Way, the core set of principles guiding the conduct of the Fujitsu Group”.
The second half of the report is dedicated to Fujitsu and the Environment, and provides a good perspective on how important the environment is to the company and its people. The Fujitsu Group Environmental Philosophy is stated as follows: “The Fujitsu Group recognizes that environmental protection is a vitally important business issue. By utilizing our technological expertise in the IT industry and our creative talents, we seek to contribute to the promotion of sustainable development. In addition, while observing all environmental regulations in our business operations, we are actively pursuing environmental protection activities on our own initiative. Through our individual and collective actions, we will continuously strive to safeguard a rich natural environment for future generations”.

Fujitsu employs strict ENERGY STAR 4.0 guidelines to conserve power
Products that earn the ENERGY STAR use less energy and prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. With energy costs and global warming becoming a top priority for consumers, Fujitsu is committed to offering solutions that help consumers conserve energy and improve the quality of our environment.
ENERGY STAR not only saves you money, it helps protect the environment
Fujitsu ENERGY STAR qualified mobile PCs use about half as much electricity as standard equipment – saving half in utility costs. But more than that, ENERGY STAR also makes a difference for the environment. Did you know that the average house can be responsible for twice the greenhouse gas emissions as the average car? That’s because every time you flip on a light switch, run your dishwasher, or turn on your PC, you use energy, which means more greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. So the more energy we can save through energy efficiency, the more we help to reduce greenhouse gases and the risks of global warming.
ENERGY STAR 4.0 Requirements
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) recently published stricter guidelines for PCs to earn the ENERGY STAR. Taking effect on July 20, 2007, ENERGY STAR 4.0 requires that qualified PCs consume even less energy while plugged in and while on the go. The following Fujitsu mobile PCs already meet the strict ENERGY STAR 4.0 guidelines:
- LifeBook® B6210 Notebook
- LifeBook® B6220 Notebook
- LifeBook® P7230 Notebook
- LifeBook® P1610 Notebook
- Stylistic® ST5100 Tablet PC

Fujitsu Recycle Program offers free return/recycling of old PCs
As PCs become more and more ubiquitous, many users find it necessary to dispose of their old computers. Because computers can contain hazardous material, they should be recycled through a reputable recycler for disposal of hazardous materials and recovery of reusable products. Fujitsu now offers a free Recycle Program through which you can return any notebook or tablet computer that is manufactured or sold by Fujitsu Computer Systems Corp. This program provides a zero cost and environmentally responsible solution for the return, recycle or full raw material recovery of these products.
This is just one more way we demonstrate our commitment to our customers and the environment. For more information about the Fujitsu Recycle Program, please go to this link.
Restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS): Important guidelines
To further strengthen environmental consideration in product development, the Fujitsu Group has taken action to eliminate the use of hazardous chemical substances in mobile computing products. To meet the requirements of the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium is currently being eliminated. Substances containing PBB (Polybrominated biphenyls) and PBDE (Polybrominated diphenyl ethers) have already been eliminated from mobile components as part of the Fujitsu Group Environmental Protection Program. For more information about the steps Fujitsu is taking reduce hazardous materials, go to the RoHS page. GreenPolicy 21: “We make every activity green”
Fujitsu has established “Green Policy 21” which is the concept that serves as the guideline for the company’s commitment to the environment. Using the slogan “We make every activity green”, the policy consists of Green Policy Products, Factories, Solutions, Earth, and Management. Each of the sections addresses a different environmental issue. Green Policy Products: Ensure that new products are developed for which the environment is a consideration through all phases of the product life cycle. Green Policy Factories: Strive for manufacturing activities that limit resource consumption and reduce emissions. Green Policy Solutions: Reduce the environmental burden using “Environmentally Conscious Solutions” to improve our client companies’ operating efficiency. Green Policy Earth: Promote enhancement of environmental education and voluntary activities by employees. Green Policy Management: Establish an environmental management system in accordance with ISO14001 as the basis for all activities. Fujitsu and Software AG Accelerate Delivery of Customer-Centric SOA Solutions
On June 11, Fujitsu and Software AG unveiled CentraSite™ 3.1, the latest version of their jointly developed solution for Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) governance. (Read the entire press release here). This integrated registry/repository has been enhanced to deliver greater out-of-the-box support for the third-party tools offered by members of the CentraSite Community. Through this pre-integration, enterprises can more quickly develop customized solutions while also benefiting from federated management of their heterogeneous environments. With the launch, the two companies have also introduced a series of measures to enhance the CentraSite Community. Established in 2006, the CentraSite Community is a collaborative network of independent software vendors and system integrators that work together to ensure their products interoperate through CentraSite. This enhanced collaboration is designed to reduce the cost required for both deploying and sustaining SOA implementations.
