The HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) conference and exhibition was held during the last week of February in New Orleans. It’s an annual affair that brings together professionals in the healthcare IT and Management Systems fields. With that in mind, this issue of “Bridging the Gap” places extra emphasis on healthcare and the important role Fujitsu products play in that vital industry.

In this issue, you will learn about a new initiative which is designed to provide free electronic prescribing to all the physicians in America by 2010. You’ll read about how Fujitsu products have been adopted by healthcare professionals for a wide variety of solutions. You’ll also learn how Fujitsu scanners are being used to electronically archive medical records in an effort to harness the enormous amount of information that currently resides in paper form.

Along with the healthcare-related information, this issue of “Bridging the Gap” describes how PRIMEPOWER® severs are being used to consolidate the data centers of one of the nation’s leading providers of business information and services. Additionally, a special issue of the Fujitsu Scientific & Technical Journal has recently been posted with a wide variety of articles related to Innovative Manufacturing and Engineering, including a detailed description of how Fujitsu is addressing thermal issues in its high-end servers.

We take this time to salute all of the healthcare industry. They do a noble service for which we are all in their debt.
