The October edition of the Fujitsu Scientific & Technical Journal (FSTJ) focuses on the network technologies being developed by Fujitsu to support Next-Generation Networks (NGNs).
In the preface to the edition, Toshitaka Tsuda, Senior Vice President, Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., discusses “Preparing for the Next Generation Network”. Mr. Tsuda points out that “after the telecom bubble burst, the telecommunications business and the related R&D have experienced difficult periods. Even while the bubble was bursting, however, data traffic was increasing at an annual rate of more than 100%, more things were being connected to the network, and more services were being provided from the network. In addition, mobile communications expanded very widely and became dominant in the access part of the network. As a result, the wideband ubiquitous network has been steadily expanding, and the importance of this network as a social infrastructure has been steadily increasing.” Mr. Tsuda goes on to discuss the steps that are being taken as the development of the Next-Generation Network gets underway.
This edition of the FSTJ contains a wide variety of white papers related to broadband access systems, backbone infrastructure, telecommunication solutions and technologies, and corporate networks. To read the entire issue, go to the FSTJ link here.
